Where's Mr. Right?

With 6,762,765,825 people in the world as of 2/24/09 @ 7:24pm est., How do you find the right person to spend the rest of your life with?

• Most attractions begin with looks, unless you meet someone on a chat line! :)
• Next, conversation! Can this person hold your attention?
• Also, does the person spend quality time with you?
• And of course, most of us want to be treated like a king or queen?

Most of us will date several people in our life time before we meet our Mr./Mrs. Right, the above are a few key things that most of us use to measure that things are going well when we first meet someone. Can we use these few key things to determine that we've found our Mr. Right?

• Women~We want the fairytale relationship, as seen on TV or in Books.
• Men~You want a Down-Ass-Chick as heard in rap songs or simply, a Mom!

And in the beginning of the relationship, life is like that fairytale romance and your girl will be down for you...But after so long, what things are we willing to let slide if you really love that person?

Looks? Conversation? Quality Time? Being Treated Well?

Can you have a healthy relationship without One or Two of the key things.....?

Or if one or two standards are lacking, the person has become Mr./Mrs. Wrong??

In 2009 it not odd to meet a man or woman with multiple "Baby Mommas or Baby Daddies!"

But How Many....Is Too Many????

When you meet someone and you are getting to know them, what's the magic number that will make you say~ "I'm Cool!"

Does a person having multiple Ex's turn you off? Does it mean too many failed relationships? Is the person irresponsible?

If you happen to meet a single parent, what type of relationship would you consider..?

• A casual relationship only?
• Have a committed relationship, but would never consider marrying the person?
• Allow nature to take its course and consider the person as a possible mate?

6 Handsome Black Men!

My February 13th blog discussed Black Men stepping up and proposing for V-day!

I am happy to announce that we had 1 proposal in our family!

My younger cousin proposed to his long-time girlfriend and "Baby Mama" on Valentine's Day!

***Congratulations! May God Bless your Union!***

While this was exciting news! I realized, 4 out of 6 men in our family are MARRIED!!! While only 1 out of 6 women are married!

Has "The Curse" reared its ugly head again???

Are We Cursed?

I would like to take a minute to discuss my inspiration for this Blog.....

For many years it has been discussed privately that women in our family may be CURSED! We have a Marriage Curse!

Being cursed meant we will never be happily married to any man! However, despite talks of a curse hanging over my head, I stayed optimistic that I would find Mr. Right....But found....No Mr. Right at age 25...No Mr. Right at age 30...No Mr. Right at age 35...Hey! maybe I am cursed??

At age 36, I have given up on marriage and have come to grips with the fact that I may never find my Mr. Right, only Mr. Right Now!

Once I stopped focusing on my tragic story, I noticed there are a number of women inside and outside of my family that are also in their 30's with children and single; some never married.

I must admit, it made me feel a little better about my situation, "Hey, I'm not the only one!"

But as I started to look deeper into the situation that I find myself and many others close to me in, I GOOGLED! And when I Googled, I found that only 27% of African-American women are married! Yet, 39% of Black Men are married, You figure that one out ladies!

The numbers hit home for me...You see I have an 18 yr old daughter and my prayer is that she is apart of the 27% and not the 80% like me! I want her to break the Curse!

But I realized it will be easy for her become apart of the 80% statistic if we do not begin to teach the next generation that we must get back to the basics of Family!

I'm writing this blog for men and women to have a voice on this issue. Hopefully to share your ideas, frustrations, and fears. I'm writing this blog for my children, my nieces, and nephews who are becoming young men and women, and will soon be faced with making life changing choices and decisions. I pray that they will not have to walk in our shoes and make the sacrifices that we have made.

Who's to Blame???

• Who is to blame for 80% of black children being born to single mothers? Is it the Women? Is it the Men? or Both?
  

• Women~We give the man our phone number (90% of the time). We set the limit on how far a man can go each time we meet. We give the man the green light when we are ready for action. We have the option to protect ourselves by using contraceptives. Once a child is conceived, by law, we have the right to make a CHOICE.

• Men~Have the right to Protect themselves

"Baby Daddy"

The word "Baby Daddy," as much of us know, is another word for "A child's father." Sadly, It has become a part of the English language. We hear the word on the big screen, in music, and in our everyday lives.

I say "Sadly" because the word was created to describe a man that has fathered your child, but the two of you are no longer in a relationship. We no longer refer to these men as our husbands or ex-husbands, but simply "My Baby Daddy"

80% of Black children are born to a single mother.

As a people, this number should scare us and piss us off at the same time! What are we teaching the next generation? Where are our family values? Where is our commitment to the well-being of our children and ourselves?

As a people, we must do better!

• Single Black Men~Take your time to really get to know the next woman that you meet. Don't kiss her until the 3rd date and don't have sex with her unless she is someone that you are interested in marrying!

• Single Black Women~Take your time to really get to know the next man that you meet. Don't kiss him until the 3rd date and don't have sex with him until he gives you a ring!

We are the average African-American Family.....

All 6 women have jobs, some attend church regularly, and we have all made parenting our priority. We've had the influence of a strong, independent, church going, widowed grandmother, whose dream was to see all of her beautiful granddaughters married to handsome, strong, hardworking men.

Grandma was blessed to have been married 29 years before the death of the love of her life in 1974, they raised 7 beautiful children together.

It's now 2009 and when you visit she will always say, "It sure would be nice if you had a husband, what ever happened to...he was nice?"

Grandma has produced a beautiful array of women...

From our looks to our personalities, men across the country have a choice of what appeals to them. Yet 5 of us continue to search for Mr. Right!
